Veco’s Pasko sa Kabataan serves 100
Since 2010, power utility firm has been holding event to give back to less fortunate children
AS part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) celebrated Pasko sa Kabataan last Dec. 10 at the Veco Cansaga playground under the New Cansaga Bridge, Consolacion, Cebu.
The annual Christmas outreach activity was participated in by Veco kaibigans (friends) who volunteered as Ates and Kuyas for the 100 schoolchildren of Tayud Elementary School in Consolacion.
The Veco playground was transformed into a fun and stimulating environment where volunteers and schoolchildren can freely move around and play. There were different game booths for the kids to enjoy and food stations that supplied them with ice cream, french fries, cotton candy and popcorn.
During the party, the beneficiaries–all Grade 1 pupils–were surprised by the arrival of the Jollibee mascot, which did a dance number to the delight of kids and adults. There was also a magician who entertained the kids.
Two Veco kaibigans dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were also present distributing Christmas gifts that brought smile to the kids.
“Lipay kaayo ko kay daghan ko nadawat makaon ug duwaan. Nisayaw pa jud si Jollibee. (I am very happy because I received lots of food and toys. I saw Jollibee danced, too),” said Althea, one of the kids.
Since 2010, Veco has been celebrating its annual Pasko sa Kabataan as a way of giving back to the less fortunate children of its host communities.
In the last week of November, Veco’s Revenue Management Department employees also conducted an early Christmas outreach program to 100 schoolchildren at Lataban Elementary School in Liloan town.
