Remolino shifts focus to NAGT

Organizers of the Cebu City Triathlon cancelled their event due to lack of support, forcing triathletes to look for another event.

Fast-rising junior triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino will be off to Subic for the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) on Jan. 29.

The 16-year-old swimmerturned-triathlete from Talisay City trained for the Cebu City Triathlon (CCT) but since the event was canceled, he opted to join the NAGT.

Fortunately, the race in Cebu was set on the same date as CCT and was for the same sprint distance category, which is a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run.

“Kim (Remolino) trained for CCT but it was canceled so we have decided to race in Subic instead,” said Remolino’s father, Roland.

Remolino, a member of the triathlon junior national team, trained even during the Christmas break to prepare for the race and he’s looking to apply all of that by race day as he faces the formidable junior triathletes in the boys’ sprint race category.

“We target to hopefully get first place,” said Roland, who is also the coach of the Talisay City Luigi Triathlon Group (TCTG).

On the other hand, Cebu’s elite triathletes Banjo Norte and Paul Jumamil of Rider Omega Pro Triathlon Team will also join the NAGT but in the standard distance, which covers a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run.

The other junior triathletes from Cebu who will suit up in the sprint distance are Alfred Lathrel, Renzo Mar Pahaganas and Renz Wayne Corbin.

The 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships double gold medalist Karen Andrea Manayon will suit up in the super sprint race, which covers a 600m swim, 16K bike and 2.5K run.
