KAPUSO STARS CELEBRATE SINULOG
The stars of GMA Network are in Cebu for the Sinulog fever. The network starts 2017 with a big bang as it spreads the news of the launching of its newest soap opera, Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa, featuring Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Ann San Jose and Benjamin Alves, together with LJ Reyes and Martin del Rosario. The series is a TV adaptation of a comic novel and the classic film of the same title from Regal Films. The original film starred Lorna Tolentino, Gabby Concepcion and Maricel Soriano. The series is set to premiere on Jan. 30 on the GMA afternoon prime block. “I’m doing Santina Gonzales, (the role popularized by) Lorna Tolentino. Santina is very strong and she’s principled,” said San Jose. “If she likes what she’s doing, she really does it. If she wants something, she will do everything to get it. She’s also very caring, loving and I can relate to her,” continued San Jose in Tagalog.
Her leading man is Alves, who takes the role of Ephraim Buenavidez, played by Concepcion in the original film.
“The role of Ephraim is the son of Jean Garcia and kuya Victor Neri,” said Alves in Tagalog.
Unlike in the original version, Ephraim—son of the characters played by Jean Garcia and Victor Neri in the soap—does not come from a rich family. He is also a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.
“It’s my first time to do an action project. We had to film the fight sequences and stunts the whole day. It will be one of the first times that you’ll see MMA on a soap if I’m not mistaken,” continued Alves.
The actor also said that Ephraim and Santina are similar in the sense that both came from humble beginnings.
San Jose, Alves, Reyes and del Rosario arrived in Cebu last Friday. They had back-to-back Kapuso Mall shows at Gaisano Capital South Colon and at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
