Police seeks mobile signal shutdown to secure Miss Universe candidates Lapu-Lapu City suspends classes to send students out to welcome candidates

Another mobile signal shutdown will be implemente­d today at 4 a.m. until tomorrow for the Miss Universe 2017 swimsuit competitio­n in some areas in Lapu-Lapu City.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Noli Taliño said the National Telecommun­ications Commission ( NTC) approved their request as the shutdown is part of a detailed plan to secure the candidates.

“The shutdown will be in the areas where the candidates will pass that are covered by the cell sites,” Taliño said.

Cebu City will not be affected by the signal shutdown.

Telecommun­ication companies Smart, Sun and TNT have released their public advisory through Facebook.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police (LLCPO) deployed 100 percent of their uniformed personnel yesterday.

They are part of the police’s security for major events, which include road security, village security, venue security, crowd control, and peace and order task group.

A no-fly zone will also be enforced in the area surroundin­g Jpark Hotel and Resort while a no-sail zone will be guarded 24 hours by the Philippine Navy, Coast Guard and Maritime Police while the pictorial is ongoing.

The Police Regional Office will deploy 2,000 personnel in the area from the Mactan Cebu Inter- national Airport (MCIA) up to the resort for the whole event.

The candidates’ close-in security detail are provided by the Miss Universe organizers as well as the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) from Camp Crame.

No class

The Lapu-Lapu City Government also suspended public school classes.

City Mayor Paz Radaza issued yesterday Executive Order 201651 for the suspension of classes in primary, elementary and secondary levels.

Radaza said welcome activities will be conducted for the candidates and guests of the 65th Miss Universe, which will involve pupils and students.
