Cebu City Police Office gives out awards to those who helped make Sinulog 2017 peaceful

“Every part is important,” Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña confirmed yesterday in a ceremony that awarded some 20 officers and volunteers’ groups for the safe celebratio­n of this year’s Sinulog. In his speech in the Cebu City Police Office’s Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Ave., the mayor said that the Muslim community played a critical role in keeping Cebu safe during the festivitie­s, which lasted more than a week. Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Noli Taliño described the Sinulog celebratio­n as “a security nightmare” but expressed his gratitude that it was peaceful and that some 1.5 million participan­ts and revelers stayed safe. Councilor Dave Tumulak was also awarded yesterday for giving support to the police during the Sinulog along with Mohammad Arafat Lozano, president of the Islamic Propagatio­n Society of Cebu.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday attended the Cebu City Police Office’s (CCPO) awarding ceremony for the successful and safe celebratio­n of this year’s Sinulog.

Speaking in front of CCPO personnel in Camp Sotero Cabahug, Osmeña commended the police, military, Muslim community and other groups who volunteere­d to secure the event.

“Every part is important,” Osmeña said.

Police Regional Office 7 Director Noli Taliño expressed his gratitude that the event was peaceful and the 1.5 million revelers were safe.

CCPO gave an award to Coun- cilor Dave Tumulak and Mohammad Arafat Lozano, president of the Islamic Propagatio­n Society of Cebu, for supporting them during the Sinulog.

Volunteer groups like the Cebu K-9 Crowd Control, Crimewatch­er in Action, the Barangay Intelligen­ce Network and the Barangay Peace Security Office were also recognized.

The deans from the University of Cebu Main Campus and Banilad Campus, Salazar Institute of Technology and the University of the Visayas were also awarded for providing criminolog­y students, who helped in the crowd control during the Sinulog grand parade. /
