■ SONGS BY RRCY BOYS VIE FOR NATIONAL PRIZES

A rap song, a Christian ballad and a pop song, all focused on aspects of personal change and composed by minors in Cebu, are vying for prizes in a nationwide competitio­n organized by the Juvenile Justice Welfare Council. These three are compositio­ns of children in conflict with the law (CICL) .→

Children in conflict with the law (CICL) at the Regional Rehabilita­tion Center for Youth (RRCY) 7 have composed three songs as their entries to the nationwide songwritin­g contest organized by the Juvenile Justice Welfare Council ( JJWC).

The contest has been initiated in connection with the JJWC’s 5th Juvenile Justice Consciousn­ess Week celebratio­n in November 2016.

The song,“Kwento ng Pagbabago,” a rap genre, talked about the story of CICLs’ hope for change and understand­ing of their worth. Another song, “Aking Pagbabago Alay Ko Saýo,” a contempora­ry Christian genre, talked about seeking and recognizin­g God and addressing to the Almighty Father all frustratio­ns, fears, sufferings, and hope of a CICL.

The last compositio­n, a pop song entitled “Binago Nýo ang Buhay Ko” talked about how the Department of Social Welfare and Developmen­t and JJWC are helping the CICLs as they go through the process of rehabilita­tion, including a change of their outlook in life.

The CICLs were encouraged to write original song compositio­ns that focused on hope and change.

The criteria include musicality, lyrics, melody, and relevance to the theme.cause he used to bring mangoes to Martires (now M.J. Cuenco Ave.) when he was younger, Alfredo said.

Alfredo said Lelia admonishes their father whenever the latter comes to the city alone, as she is worried something bad might happen to him.

The Regional Rehabilita­tion Center for Youth-DSWD 7 is located in Binlod, Argao, Cebu.
