MCWD NAMES NEW BOD CHAIRPERSON
Presidential Decree 198 created the board of directors as the policy-making body of all water districts Joel Mari Yu had served as a managing director of the Cebu Investment Promotions Center from 1994 to 2013
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) announced the designation of Joel Mari Yu as the new chairperson of the board of directors (BOD) starting this month.
Yu replaced Renato Mercado who served as BOD chairperson since 2013. Mercado is now the new vice chairperson.
Another new member of the BOD is Atty. Ralph Sevilla who replaced Atty. Manuel Legaspi as representative for the civic sector. Legaspi’s six-year term as member of the board ended in December last year.
MCWD has a five-member board representing business, education, women, civic and professional sectors.
Presidential Decree 198 created the BOD as the policy-making body of all water districts to ensure that the welfare of all the sectors is protected in the water governance.
Yu will lead the MCWD management in implementing projects in order to achieve its target of increasing its service coverage to 66 percent in 2020.
This is the second time Yu has joined the MCWD BOD.
In February 2008, Yu replaced lawyer Adelino Sitoy who resigned as representative of the professional sector. Yu served the water district until Dec. 31, 2012.
This month, Yu again joined the MCWD replacing Juan Saul Montecillo, whose second term ended in December 2016 as education sector representative.
Yu had served as a managing director of the Cebu Investment Promotions Center from 1994 to 2013. He also served as marketing and business development officer for South Road Properties and as vice president for Business Development of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc.
Sevilla, meanwhile, was elected as the new board secretary.
He also held various positions in the Cebu City Government that included officer-in-charge (OIC) of the City Attorney’s Office and a head of the Cebu City Human Relations Development Office.
