I’ll have what you are smoking

2017 figures to be an interesting year in the boxing world. I’m now beginning to believe that former pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr will actually stay retired.

The inevitable march of time has left him howling on the sidelines, trying to remain relevant.

But as the Chinese proverb goes, the winds can howl with all their might but the mountains pay them no mind.

Which brings me to the subject matter at hand.

CONOR.

Yes him. I dismissed the proposed matchup between him and Floyd before as pure hogwash, but with UFC promoter Dana White finally coming up with an offer, things have apparently taken a more serious complexion.

25 million dollars appears to be the value of the check Dana’s mouth can cash but even that has been thumbed down by the “Pretty Boy”.

According to Floyd, while 25M is a huge sum of money, the last time he earned that amount in a fight was 10 years ago.

Ouch.

DISPARITY.

Just as well. To this Last Rounder, the seeming disparity in terms of purse money requirements is quite emblematic of the disparity in terms of skill.

Not to disparage Conor who is a fearsome and lethal weapon on top of a cage under MMA rules.

But on top of a professional boxing ring where he has no experience at all, he will be totally out of his element.

Other than a puncher’s lucky shot, he’s got a snowball’s chance in hell to beat Floyd. Disagree? Let me give you a list. Manny Pacquiao. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Marcos Maidana. Miguel Cotto. Shane Mosely. Zab Judah. Oscar dela Hoya. Juan Manuel Marquez. Jose Luis Castillo.

If you think the “Notorious One” is a better boxer, let me know what you’re smoking.

VERBATIM.

Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M. You have the “2” and the “5” right but you meant to say $2.5M not $25M.

LAST ROUND.

It’s on my cousin Atty. Dax Quijano who recently celebrated his birthday. Cheers!
