■ RAISE FUEL ALLOCATION FOR BARANGAY GARBAGE TRUCKS: ABC CEBU CITY TO DPS

GSO chief Ronald Malacora advises ABC, Zafra to address their request to Cebu City Mayor Osmeña

Increasing the fuel allocation of all garbage trucks in Cebu City’s 80 barangays might help address the garbage problem. Councilor Philip Zafra, ABC Cebu City president, said one of the reasons there are still uncollected garbage in some barangays is due to the limitation of their fuel allocation from the City. Most barangays currently receive 150 liters of gasoline from the City but one garbage truck can consume an estimated 10 liters a day, Zafra said. General Services Office Chief Ronal Malacora said the ABC can refer the matter to Mayor Tomas Osmeña. He said that some barangays located far from the city proper and those with bigger trucks already get a bigger fuel allocation.

The Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) will request the Cebu City Government to increase the monthly fuel allocation of all garbage trucks in the city’s 80 barangays.

Councilor Philip Zafra, ABC president, cited the limitation of their fuel allocation from the City as one of the reasons why there are still uncollected garbage in some barangays.

At present, most of the barangays get at least 150 liters of gasoline per month from the City, but one garbage truck can consume at least 10 liters per day, Zafra said.

In Tisa alone where he is the chief, Zafra said the barangay has three trucks that collect garbage for the entire village.

“We always wanted to help the City in the garbage collection because the barangays should coordinate with them when it comes to garbage concerns. As much as possible, we want to collect our own garbage but there are times that we run out of fuel,” he said.

General Services Office (GSO) chief Ronald Malacora said the ABC can refer the matter to Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who will decide on the matter.

“That’s doable but they should write the mayor first,” he said.

Malacora said that some barangays, particularly those far from the city proper and those with bigger trucks get more than

150 liters of fuel monthly.

There are also instances that barangays request additional fuel to the City if they consume their entire allocation before the month ends. /
