Aniñon leads on Day 3 of Sinulog Cup

Senior bowler Ed Aniñon took the lead in the singles event and ended as the top qualifier after Day 3 of the 18th BTA-Cebu Sinulog Open National Tournament at the Gaisano Bowlingple­x in Cebu City.

Aniñon scored 481 in the singles event and totaled 1, 347 pin falls after adding 445 in the doubles and 421 in the team event.

The Day 2 leader Luther Tapaya dropped to second spot with 1,340, while BTA-Prima junior bowler Aui Padawan fell to third place after finishing second in Day 2.

Aniñon also landed on top among the senior bowlers, trailing him were CETBA’s Makoto Osada who had 1,328 and Wilbert Yu with 1,303.

PHL youth bowler Xyrra Cabasus stayed on top among the female qualifiers with 1, 293 pinfalls. The 21-year-old civil engineerin­g student shot 417 in the singles, scored 440 in the doubles and made 436 in the team event.

Tess Regino and Emi Osada were in second and third spots in the women’s qualifier after scor- ing 1, 262 and 1,213 pin falls, respective­ly.

The Top 48 bowlers will compete in the masters’ event, which offers a cash prize of P60,000 for the champion, and P30,000 and P15,000 for the first and second runners-up.

Defending champion Edwin Perey of Cavite South Bowling Associatio­n (Casba) will open his bid to defend his crown in the masters’ event set this Sunday. / RSC
