■ DON BOSCO D TAKES HOME 9-UNDER AND 11-UNDER TITLES AT 2017 SINULOG CUP

Giuseppe beats DBTC for eighth title this season; DBTC brings home U9, U11 crowns

The Giuseppe Football Club outlasted Canduman in the finals to win its eighth title for the school year, while Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) D leaned on Alexander Villarosa’s heroics for a 3-0 win against sister team DB 4 to win the 11-Under title of the 2017 Sinulog Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCST). The DBTC D also took home the crown for the 9-Under, beating Springdale. On the other hand, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu won the first title of the tournament in the 15-Under divison last Friday. The Sinulog Cup continues today with games in the Men’s and Ladies’ Open at the CCST.

In the semis, Giuseppe defeated DBTC, 2-1, thanks to a couple of goals by John Rey Colina, while Canduman outlasted Consolacion FC, 2-1.

In the finals, Colina played the perfect provider to goal-scorer James Mañapo for the lone goal. Rushing from left, Mañapo connected with Colina, who after attracting the defense, passed the ball back to Mañapo for the perfect shot at goal.

It was the eight title for the club this school year, and the first for 2017. Aside from the two scorers, the other members of the team are Timothy Smith, David Simmeth, Hugo Gica, Stacey Soria, Laurence Ederio, COwen Deypalan, Benito Canton, Craig Thomson, Itsu Kuroda and Xavi- er Castañares.

On the other hand, DBTC didn’t go home empty-handed as it won two crowns in the 9-Under and 11-Under division.

In the 9-Under division, DBTC 1 blanked Springdale, 2-0, in the finals, while it was an all-DBTC affair in the 11-Under finals, with DBTC D prevailing over DBTC 4, 2-0.

Alexander Villarosa scored twice, including a cheeky volley off a corner, while Domecq Ledesma scored the other goal in DBTC’s win./
