ROSETE, ENOUGH

BABY LANCER PLAYER LOSES TEAM, PERKS

-

After yet another controversy involving Justin Jake Rosete, University of the Visayas team manager Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas has decided he has enough and has dropped the controversial player from the UV high school team.

This was disclosed by UV Baby Lancers coach Delfin Pepito Jr. shortly after a meeting called by the first district of Cebu congressman at his office at UV yesterday.

“Despite my pleading that Rosete is needed because of his talent and skills, Samsam has made up his decision to drop him from the line-up and send him home. Anugon unta, but we cannot do anything now at this stage,” Pepito told SunStar Cebu.

Rosete, who was involved in a head-locking incident with a member of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu last year, figured in another controversy after he was caught on video hitting the chin of Andrew Velasco, who was already nursing an injury that needed eight stitches sustained in Game 1.

On the other hand, Andrew Velasco’s mom, Yvonne, said they didn’t want to see Rosete punished. She even wanted NBTC to vindicate Rosete and penalize Pepito.

“We (Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles parents and community) are not ganging up on Rosete, he is the victim here. Coach Pepito is the object of my complaint letter. He said ‘Sumbaga si Velasco sa suwang,’ Rosete just did what he was told. Of course Pepito will deny this. I hope Rosete gets vindicated, because he was the sacrificial lamb,” Velasco said.

Pepito denied ordering Rosete to punch Velasco on the chin.

“I did not order Rosete, all I said was ‘Depensahi si Velasco, suwang ra ang tan-awon ana.’ But I said it not to Rosete but when Velasco passed by me. It was a strategy to psyche the players. In my years as a coach (of UV), I never asked any of my players to punch an opposing player. It was just a side comments to distract a player,” Pepito said. /
