How can SMEs be made world-class?

-

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth, about one-third of the gross domestic product (GDP) and twothirds of the total labor force.

Though SMEs have been a dynamic force in the economy, they continue to face problems like access to capital, raw materials, skilled workers, and technology. Government has been looking for ways to improve business like fast trading, efficient transport, and available financing.

SMEs have to make their businesses globally competitive by managing their operations better.

As part of Prof. Enrique Soriano III and Prof. Danny Wong’s advocacy to help SMEs, Octopus Branding is organizing a half-day seminar, “Creating a World-Class SME: Family Business Governance is Key” on Feb. 18, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Cebu Parklane International Hotel.

A special rate of P2,500 per participant is being offered, and group Discounts can bring that down to P1,900 per person for participating families from first to third generation and beyond.

Soriano is a renowned family business coach in the ASEAN region who has written two books on family business. He is also a professor of marketing at Ateneo Graduate School of Business and currently the executive director of Wong+Bernstein Advisory Group Manila and Cebu.

Wong, Wong+Bernstein Advisory Cebu managing director, is a true-blue entrepreneur and business advisor. He earned his BSBA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and his MBA at the University of San Francisco. For 22 years, he worked in their family-owned business as VP and marketing director of Cosmos Bottling Corp. He is also a senior faculty at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
