Five weeks ago, a brother who is a police officer persuaded Christopher “Etcho” Canlobo, 46, to surrender to the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang. But the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) found enough basis to raid Canlobo’s house in Bulacao, Talisay City yesterday. He escaped.

The brother of an active policeman in the Cebu Provincial Police Office ( CPPO) was raided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency ( PDEA) 7 but managed to escape.

Christopher "Etcho" Canlobo, 46, brother of SPO3 Nestor Canlobo, who already facilitated his surrender during an Oplan Tokhang last Dec. 29, was the subject of the drugbust in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City last Friday night.

"His name was known in their neighborhood as he was a big-time drug pusher whose brother is a policeman. Their houses were just meters apart," said Earl Rallos, acting public information officer of the PDEA 7.

Agents instead caught Christopher's wife Luz, 40, and three others identified as Rey Noval, John Rey Suello and Pepito Joson. The four sus- pects didn't resist arrest.

Shabu weighing 1,000 grams with an estimated street worth of P6 million, or P12 million in the Dangerous Drugs Board's estimate value, was confiscated from their possession along with drug paraphernalia.

Rallos said Christopher is a high-value target level 2, who can dispose of more than one kilo of shabu per week.

The agency received information that Christopher would receive three to four kilos of shabu, prompting it to conduct an operation against him.

PDEA 7 agents bought 50 grams of shabu with P150,000 in buy- bust money.

Christopher's area of distribution covers Cebu City and Talisay City.

Nestor, who served in the police force for 25 years and was recently relieved of his duties from the Talisay City Police Station, subjected his own brother to Tokhang. The latter promised to stop his illegal drug trade.

"Nestor was able to show our agents the documentation of the waivers and surrenderer's letter to prove that he (Nestor) was innocent," Rallos said.

However, Nestor might be charged even though he is close to retirement because of Christopher's dealings.

He is currently on floating status, assigned in the holding administrative unit of the CPPO, pending investigation of his alleged involvement in his brother's drug trade.

"He told me, 'I can't do anything to him anymore because I scolded and warned him several times to stop but he doesn't obey me'," Rallos quoted Nestor.

Rallos said that he advised the policeman to find a way to clear himself.

Christopher's drug supply allegedly came from his contact in the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City.
