Female star power in ‘Ocean’s Eight’

It’s the second reinvention of the “Ocean’s” movies, and this time, George Clooney hands over the director’s reins to Sandra Bullock. Bullock leads a cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and Rihanna. Clooney and Brad Pitt’s gang made three “Ocean’s” movies total. Will this all-female version do as well or better?

E verybody is so excited as eight women with different personalities board one train to film Ocean’s Eight, the re-imagining of

Ocean’s Eleven. The latter was composed of high-profile male actors while the former comprises an all-female cast that are just as high profile.

Three Oscar winners, an Emmy winner, a Bafta winner, a Grammy winner, a television series creator and a rapper comprise the all-star cast of

Ocean’s Eight: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.

Bullock takes the reins from George Clooney, who led the

Ocean’s trilogy franchise with the gang composed of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Ca- sey Affleck and the late Bernie Mac. Bullock will play Debbie Ocean, estranged sister to Clooney’s Danny Ocean.

While Bullock is the film’s “leader” and Blanchett has two Oscars under her belt, Rihanna is by far, the most popular among the group.

Kaling herself shared to Seth Meyers how popular Rihanna really is in an interview last December: “There’s movie/TV famous, and then there’s international pop star famous, which is at a whole other level.”

“We shot a scene, all eight of us together recently, and when we walked outside, there was this huge paparazzi. I was talking to Anne Hathaway and Rihanna was kind of behind us. And there was a sea of paparazzi taking photos and all that. I was feeling kind of cool and famous. Then Rihanna took a left to her trailer, which was not in the same direction that me and Anne were going, and the paparazzi left so quickly.”

“It was like a desert! Anne and I were talking, and I’m trying to have this sexy conversation with Anne Hathaway, and no one’s around or cares even,” the comedienne and Mindy creator said.

It didn’t even matter that Kaling was in a pair of expensive shoes.

“Just for the record, I was wearing a gorgeous coat. I was showing a lot of legs and expensive shoes. Anne was wearing a leopard coat. Rihanna was wearing a full parka and baggy jeans!” Kaling shared with Meyers in his

Late Night show. “They shoved me out of the way to get to her. ‘Get out of the way, Sandra Bullock’s assistant! We want to talk to Rihanna!’”

Being mistaken as Bullock’s assistant was yet another joke Kaling shared with Meyers. She said she had never felt so “unfamous” in her life.

When there is too many estrogen in the room, there are always rumors of strife. Woman’s Day magazine earlier reported that Hathaway is rubbing Blanchett the wrong way. The two Oscar winners reportedly butt heads during filming.

A representative for Hathaway released this statement to E!

News: “It’s complete rubbish and totally false. Everyone on the film is having a blast with each other. So typical that a tabloid would pit females against each other. It’s sad. They don’t do this with men.”

Paulson, who recently won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for playing lawyer Marcia Clark in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, basically confirmed to En

tertainment Tonight that the cast is getting along just fine.

“We’re all texting each other making a plan for this dinner that we’re having in New York. But the things that are going on in this text chain, you would lose your mind,” Paulson said about the cast.

When pressed for details about their group text, Paulson said: “There’s a lot of GIFs ( graphics interchange format) going. It’s pretty special.”

The film, which started shooting last October, comes out in 2018. It’s the fourth film in the Ocean’s franchise following Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve

and Ocean’s Thirteen.
