City on full alert for Asean events

-

Authorities imposed heightened security measures for the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) activities set in Davao City in line with the all-out war declaration of the government against lawless armed groups.

With the government and Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) truce brought to an end, the security forces upgraded their monitoring to prevent any potential terrorist acts here.

After successfully hosting the earlier Asean event in SMX Convention Center, authorities are confident they can pull off another big event in Davao City.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Region spokesperson chief inspector Andrea dela Cerna said that some 3,000 combined forces coming from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), emergency responders, and other agencies were already deployed in different areas in the city to ensure everyone’s safety.

There were 135 delegates who attended the Asean Finance Cen- tral Bank Deputies Working Group meeting at the Marco Polo Hotel Friday, February 10, and they expect another 100 participants for the 13th meeting of the senior level committee on Finance Integration which will be held at SMX Convention Center at SM Lanang, Davao City today.

“The Financial Integration throughout Asean regions plays a key role in the financial sectors’ continued development. It facilitates greater access to insurance, capital market and banking. Improved access to these services may help improve efficiency and growth of an economy,” she said.

The Task Group Davao (TSG) continues to monitor all activities within the city through its Multi-Agency Coordinating Center located at Green Heights Convention Center at Buhangin, Diversion Road, Davao City.

She added that they have enough forces to cover security of the visitors. There are also standby forces and quick reaction teams in case of any atrocities.
