WHERE FANS OF CHICKEN TAKE WING(S)

- DENEB R. BATUCAN / Writer

H onest-to-goodness comfort food that makes one’s palate happy and even one’s tummy happier—that’s what Sure Thing Chicken Wing is about. It wants to make sure that a customer leaves its premises with nothing but satisfaction and a belly filled with chicken.

Carlo Borromeo, one of the store owners, initially rented the restaurant’s current location for the office of his advertising and branding firm Maverick Ideas.

“When we started Maverick, we were helping other brands. Then we realized, what if we create our own brand and franchise that?” Carlo said.

He partnered with his friend Jericho Limosnero and thought of a good product that was easy to make, affordable and downright delicious. Also, Carlo recalled one of the expressions he heard from a former colleague: “Sure thing, chicken wing!” Needless to say, everyone was all aboard the chicken wing boat not long after.

Carlo and Jericho wanted a place where people come to

just dine and enjoy the food—no fuss, no frills, just scrumptious food. Sure Thing Chicken Wing’s menu consists of three main dishes: the chicken wings, which are the stars of the show, the Hakuna Patatas, which are freshly cut and fried potato chips, and the black sambo, the sweet and creamy dessert that best tops a great meal.

The chicken wings come in four flavors, each one a surefire way to get diners asking for extra puso (hanging rice): the New Yorker is the store’s take on the original Buffalo wings—deepfried and coated with a special sauce with just the right zing. The Gangnam are Korean-style wings in delightfully done with a sweet and spicy sauce. Pinoy, a Sure Thing Chicken Wing original, uses Filipino spices and flavors that are perfect for the Filipino taste—sweet, salty and evenly spiced. The Honey Glazed wings, a crowd favorite, are definitely not short of honey— imagine the deep-fried goodness of chicken lathered with sweet and tangy honey. It’s a sure thing that’s bound to get one craving and going to this chicken nook more often.

Sure Thing Chicken Wing is located at F. Ramos St., Cebu City across Diplomat Hotel. Smell the deep-fried chicken goodness wafting in the air starting from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
