CEBUANO ARCHERS PULL OFF 1-2 FINISH

Cebuano marksmen Lloyd Apawan and Christian Caresosa were unstoppabl­e in their turf and pulled off a 1-2 finish in the qualifying round of the 2017 Philippine National Outdoor and Philippine Archery Cup Final at the Camp Lapu-Lapu parade grounds yesterday.

They also put themselves in a good position to earn slots in the Youth Olympic Games.

Apawan, who shoots for the Cebu City Archers Club, scored a total of 597 points to win the gold medal in the Boys Cadet Recurve to top the 26-archer field and get a good chance to earn more points going to the second qualifying round in May.

Apawan shot the best score in the first distance with 308 points followed by a 289 score in the second distance to win the gold medal, while Caresosa bagged the silver medal after shooting a total of 588 points.

Caresosa had 294 in both distances that earned him the second best score in the competitio­n.

James Michael Exclamador of Polomolok Archery Team copped the bronze medal with 586. Exclamador scored the second best score in the first distance with 306 points but managed to score only 280 on the second.

Other Cebuano archers who qualified to the next qualifying competitio­n were Arlando Añora and Niño Maandig, who are both from the Cebu City Archery Club.

Añora shot a total of 583 points good for fourth place, while Maandig had 449, good for the 16th place.

Nicole Marie Tagle of Siliman University topped the Girls Cadet Recurve with 634 points to win the gold medal. Charmaine Marie Villamor of Baguio City bagged the silver medal following her 614-point performanc­e.

The bronze medal was won by Gabrielle Monica Bidaura of JJ Dumaguete Archery Center after scoring 610 points.

Khalin Alyx Abella of Cebu Archery Club, meanwhile, got her ticket to the next qualifying round after shooting a total of 545 points.

In the other categories, Jeremy Ebbinghans Reaport of Archery Dream Club bagged the gold medal in the Boys Yeoman Recurve with Geriemee Ranchez of La Union Archery Associatio­n finishing with the silver medal and Alfred Migs Borra of Sto. Niño Archery Club finishing with the bronze.

Naina Dominique Tagle of Negros Island Region Archery Club topped the Girls Yeoman Recurve with Neo-Jane Daciego of La Union Archery Associatio­n winning the silver and Gianne Gasendo of Sto. Niño Archery Club winning the bronze medal.
