Cashier shot by security guard fighting for life

A cashier of a convenienc­e store in Poblacion, Argao town is in critical condition after he was shot by a security guard yesterday afternoon.

Reymark Umerez, 23, who hails from Barangay Binlod, was badly wounded on his neck when he was shot by Herwin Ahiro Labos, 33, with a caliber .38 pistol. They had a fight at 1:25 p.m. “The guard allegedly intervened with the duties of the cashier, which led to a fight. The victim threatened the guard with a fistfight but the latter shot him instead,” PO3 Benjamin Gerosaga of the Argao Police Station said.

Residents were shocked when they heard a gunshot from the convenienc­e store.

Umerez was first rushed to the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital where he was revived.

He was transferre­d to the South General Hospital and is fighting for his life.

According to his relatives, the victim was a young father, making ends meet by working at the convenienc­e store.

Labos hails from Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City and had been working in the store for about a month.

The gun he used to shoot Umerez was confiscate­d with four live bullets, while an empty slug was also recovered.

Labos was arrested and is detained at the Argao Police Station. /
