21 suspects, including son of official, fall in raid
The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) arrested 21 drug suspects, including the son of a barangay official, in two days following President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to resume the PNP’s anti-illegal drugs operation.
MCPO seized 93 sachets and three medium packs of shabu with a street value of P57,900 over the weekend.
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of MCPO, said members of Mandaue Police Stations (PS) 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 conducted the operations from March 4 to 6 that resulted in the arrests of the drug personalities.
Among them was Ivy John Bihag, 27, a resident of Purok 2 in Barangay Cubacub, son of former barangay captain and now incumbent first barangay councilor Edgar Bihag.
Ivy John is considered a “high-impact value target.”
Alanas said high-impact value target suspects are those who have connections to people in law enforcement, politics and government.
The suspect was arrested in Purok 2 after selling a sachet of shabu for P200 to a police decoy at 10:40 p.m. last Sunday.
Five more sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia were recovered from Ivy John.
In a report from GMA 7’s Balitang Bisdak, Ivy John, who was detained in PS 6 holding cell, said he is new to the illegal activity.
Alanas said they will check the information that the suspect is a government employee.
In another operation on the same day, a hand grenade was recovered from a group of drug suspects, including a minor, in Barangay Looc Mandaue City at 6:35 p.m.
Proof
Elements of City Intelligence Branch led by Senior Insp. Ricky Calong recovered the hand grenade from Leo Jayme, 48, who was the subject of the operation.
A sachet and two medium packs of shabu and the buy-bust money were also seized from Jayme.
Others who were arrested with illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were Joseph Jayme, 18; Archel Heyrosa, 17; Jaylord Heyrosa, 18; Elizalde Natad, 42; and Reynaldo Soriano, 24.
Aside from illegal drugs, a .38 revolver and fake money were also seized from the other operations.
After a month of suspension due to criticisms from several sectors, the police’s anti-illegal drugs operations are back on orders of President Rodrigo Duterte.
