Jr. NBA Phils. Visayas selection set today

Grassroots players gather today at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) in the first of the two-day Visayas regional selection camp of the Jr. NBA Philippine­s 2017 presented by Alaska.

The regional camp is mentored by Jr. NBA coach Chris Sumner along with local Jr. NBA coaches headed by PBA legend Jeffrey Cariaso.

The participan­ts of the sixth regional camp here in Cebu City are boys and girls aged 10 to 14 years old.

The first day will be vitals tests, skills tests and drills. The top performers, selected by the coaches, return on the second day, wherein they will do intense drills, team activities and scrimmages. The top performers on the second day who will make the cut will advance to the National Training Campin Manila on May 11 to 14.

Eight boys each from the boys and the girls of the National Training Camp will be picked as the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA AllStars. The All-Stars will enjoy the NBA experience and will also be playing with other Jr. NBA All-Stars from the Southeast Asian region.

The Visayas regional training camp starts at 9 a.m.

Some of the products of the Jr. NBA Visayas Regional Training Camp are Southweste­rn University (SWU) star guard Mark Jayven Tallo, Del La Salle University’s (DLSU) Kib Montalbo and Fareastern University’s (FEU) Rendell Senining.
