Spring/Summer 2017 makeup trends

-

Sometimes we get so caught up in beauty trends that it starts to become more overwhelming than enjoyable. MAC Cosmetics takes a fresh, modern approach to beauty this season—it’s actually about makeup that women want to wear! (If you happen to not be a woman and still want to wear makeup, I say go right ahead!) This season, it’s about enhancing natural beauty, not modifying the face. Whether you want to wear a little or a lot of makeup, I always say cosmetics should enhance your features, and not cover or change them. Here are four different ways that MAC makes makeup believable and fun this season.

Real

Skin is still super in this season, and going Real means going barefaced and beautiful. We can’t all have perfect, flawless skin like runway models do, but there’s really no need to layer one product over another trying to achieve “perfect” skin. This is the trend that speaks to me the most, because I always favor the “skin that still looks like skin” finish over anything too matte or powdery. It’s the stain that a lipstick leaves behind, or a lip color that doesn’t look so precisely applied. It’s a black or brown eye kohl that’s a little smudged or worn in. With Real beauty, makeup is a little imperfect, a little lived in, and so easy.

Free

To be Free is to be spontaneous and uninhibited. Yes, you can wear whatever color mascara you like, even if it’s not a color that your body naturally makes. The runway saw yellow lashes, but take baby steps with navy blue or purple mascara, which will get noticed but is more real-life-friendly. Add a shot of bold color on the face, whether on the eyes, cheeks, or lips, but never all at once. The most modern way to rock a splash of color is to wear it with nothing else.

Wet

As mentioned, skin is still super in—there’s no end in sight yet for the fascination of mimicking light on the skin. While you can always have your favorite highlighter out, opt for a creamy or balmy formula, applied with fingers, to really play with the texture and massage it into the skin. It’s not about seeing obvious sparkle or shimmer on the skin, but making it look Wet with gloss or shine. If you don’t want to look oily or sweaty, just try not to over powder. Over powdering is considered quite old fashioned; try to limit just a soft sweep on areas you think you need it the most.

Warm

With summer upon us, heated shades were just made for the season. Bronze, tan, peach and pink hues are all so classic and pretty. This year, try them in the softest possible tints and washes for a super feminine look that won’t feel heavy or melt off in our high temperatures!
