Lawyer releases new book on env’t protection

-

A Cebuano environmentalist and lawyer recently launched a picture-and-story book about how to care for the environment.

Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr. showcased his advocacy through stories, pictures and paintings in his book “Shooting Stars and Dancing Fish.” It is his fourth book. Oposa, a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for public service in 2009 for his legal advocacies for the environment, launched the book with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., his publisher.

During the book launching at Casino Español in Cebu City last Friday, Oposa emphasized the need to shift the people’s mind from wasteful consumption to CPR (Conservation, Protection and Restoration) economics.

Oposa said that CPR can be achieved in two ways: road sharing, which helps ease traffic congestion by allowing all citizens to share the road, and edible landscaping, which helps feed families by cultivating gardens on available spaces.

Proceeds of Oposa’s book will go to the restoration of the School of the Sea, a marine learning camp that was established by Oposa in Bantayan Island.

The facility was damaged when super typhoon Yolanda hit Visayas in 2013. /
