Road rage and dashboard cams

David Lim Jr., who figured in the 3 a.m. Sunday road rage incident on F. Sotto Drive, Cebu City, was charged Tuesday with frustrated murder for shooting a nurse, Ephraim Nuñal.

Lim surrendered to PRO 7 Director Noli Taliño at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Here’s a thing about road rage. It’s probably because everyone is in a hurry. But look at the Cebu City road rage case. The victim is in the hospital, while the suspect as of this writing is in jail.

A video footage of the road rage case, including the shooting, went viral on social media where it’s easy to post anything.

That should remind us that whatever we do now could easily be captured by cameras, either from smartphones, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras or dashboard cameras.

A bank CCTV footage led NBI 7 agents to the Romanian ATM skimmers. It’s also so easy now to star in your own video on social media, whatever you do and wherever you are.

The recent road rage case also tells us rising tempers on the road and guns are a potent mix for violence.

Many people are known to flare up, especially if they have a gun in their possession, even if intent was for self-protection.

There would not have been any shooting in the road rage case if Lim didn’t have a gun.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña personally led a police Special Weapons and Tactics team in raiding the home of David Lim Sr. Sunday night but did not find the suspect.

Well, Lim had surrendered, sparing the mayor some more time and effort in personally conducting a hot pursuit operation.

He’d have more time now running after business establishments in the city that did not pay the proper taxes.
