Apo cited for EHS campaign
Apo Cement Corp. was recognized for its environmental excellence, health and safety (EHS), and community development milestones.
The Apo team received the awards from the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) committee during the 63nd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference last Nov. 18 at Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
The awards included platinum award on mineral processing category, second runner-up on best mining forest-mineral processing plant category, and safest mines award in mineral processing–cement plant category.
Apo plant director Gery Rota received the trophies, which were handed over by Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Director Leo Jasareno and Louie Sarmiento, president of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association. Also present during the awards night were human resource manager Danilo Antonio, environmental manager Jenevy Patalingjug and Apo EHS team members Arnold Alonzo, Lucito Padernal, Vitaliano Sevilla and Marlito Cabigas.
Apo Cement Corp., a subsidiary of the CEMEX Philippines Group, was recognized for exhibiting innovation and environmental stewardship as well as for championing responsible natural resource management, empowerment of host communities, land use improvement, and site rehabilitation among its operation in Cebu.
