Summer. Thirsty. Run

-

Mon Fernandez vs. Peping Cojuangco. While it's depressing to witness sports officials get embroiled in politicking and fighting, this is one slugfest that I don't mind happening. If the issue involves money and how our meager sports budget is improperly used, then it should be exposed. This is what “El Presidente” is doing to POC's president. It's interesting to read all the commentary and how everybody's favoring Mon. I have yet to read one columnist (or Facebook post) applauding Peping. And because Mon is planning to pursue a libel case, this story will explode. I also read with interest Mike Limpag's account of Ricky Dakay and how the CFA president voluntarily relinquished his throne. This is an example of humble and selfless leadership. So unlike the POC: Peping's Olympic Committee.

XTERRA. It's back. From Liloan, moving northwards to Danao. I recall joining this offroad triathlon twice. First, as an individual participant (where I placed 2nd to Jun Barcenas in our age group — there were only four of us!); and the second time, in an all-SunStar relay team where Iste Sesante-Leopoldo swam, I biked, and Edri Aznar ran. If you're into mountain-biking, this is a mustjoin adventure. My only wish, in behalf of the participants: a less treacherous bike course compared to Liloan. The first XTERRA course (the one that included the famous Liloan lighthouse) was splendid and exhilarating. The last Liloan bike course (to a non-daredevil MTBer like myself) was terrifying. We'll see what Danao will offer.

THIRSTY RUN. It's that time of the year again when it's good to sprint outdoors and relish the wind and sun. It's summer. Classes are finishing. Graduation ceremonies abound. Families will travel to beach destinations and bask in God's gift called the sun.

This Sunday, run in the sun. It's the Thirsty Summer Run. Offering 12K, 6K and 3K distances, the run will start and finish at The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu with the participants circling the Cebu Business Park. This is a fun run. There are no winners. No medals. No singlets. For P50 (and upon ordering a large Thirsty drink or salad), one will be given a Race Bib to join. When one finishes, a cold lemonade drink awaits the runner. Plus, there will be plenty of raffle prizes from New Balance. Register now at any Thirsty outlet. So far, over 1,300 have joined. See you Sunday at 6 a.m.

We have definitely added years to people. So it’s a tradeoff. You want to see this guy in this one game? Or do you want to see him for three more years in his career? And do you want to see him in the playoffs because he didn’t get hurt because maybe he got rest and he was playing so much. GREGG POPVICH on his effective system of resting out his players
