Group ‘behind propaganda war’ vs. Tomas?

An unknown group is reportedly backing a propaganda war against Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña until he leaves a certain tax evader behind.

In an interview yesterday, Osmeña said someone sent him a feeler through a phone call, telling him not to run after the tax evader anymore.

The matter was also posted by Osmeña in his Facebook (FB) page.

Although he is suspecting some individuals behind it, the mayor chose not to name them including the tax evader they are working for.

“Just today, I was contacted by a feeler, saying that the propaganda war against me will stop if I just leave a certain tax evader alone. He told me to look up “Kumander Leon Kilat” and “theclubfilipino” ( both pages created very recently) and said that they have a very large budget to sponsor posts and will continue to do so until this tax evading company gets what they want. He said that until I give up, they will not stop sponsoring posts and making new FB pages and ‘ news’ sites, among other things,” he said.

Osmeña said he was offered to take the money that they plan to spend for the propaganda against him, but he refused.

“Bring it on, please. I’ve been around long before social media existed. I didn’t even know your propaganda war existed until you told me,” he said.

Osmeña said he doesn’t feel threatened by it and will continue to fight against those who don’t pay correct taxes to the City.

The mayor said the City will die without taxes and it can’t finance basic services like the fixing of roads, garbage collection, health, scholarship and financial assistance to the elderly and persons with disabilities, among others.

He said this is the reason he will continue running after tax evaders.

Osmeña recently filed cases against BDO Unibank Magallanes-Plaridel branch and SM Prime Holding Inc. over the allegedly incorrect declaration of their taxes.
