FETS HITS TARGET IN GERRY’S GRILL CUP

Fets snagged the Under-9 crown of the Gerry’s Bar and Restaurant Small Sided Football Festival after a thrilling 2-1 penalty shootout victory over home team Giuseppe FC yesterday at the Giuseppe FC football pitch in Banilad.
Fets, a mix of players from different schools, took the early lead with a powerful strike by Ray Augustine Abuzo inside the box in the first half. Rafael Colina scored the equalizer in the sec- ond half with a free kick.
With both squads tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the match went into a penalty shootout. Giuseppe FC scored the first goal with its first kicker, while Fets missed its target. Giuseppe FC missed its second attempt, while Fets tied it up at 1-1 after converting its second try.
Both teams missed in the next three penalty kick attempts. With Giuseppe FC missing another with its sixth kicker, Izen Yap sealed the match with a accurate strike that hit the back of the net.
Both F.E.T.S and Giuseppe FC were unbeaten in the group stage with nine points each.
On the other hand, ParefSpringdale won the Under-7 division, while Giuseppe FC finished first runner-up.
The tournament resumes today with matches in the Boys Under-13, Boys Under-15 and Girls Under-15 categories. /
