Cviraa routs Talisay 5-0 in first day of Mayor’s Cup 14-Under division Cviraa high school team falls short against Leylam 3-2 in Men’s Open Prisaa national finalsboun­d USC, Samba FC fight to 5-5 draw

The Central Visayas Regional Athletic Associatio­n (Cviraa) elementary squad is off to a hot start in the Under-14 division of the 1st Mayor’s Invitation­al Football Tournament with a one-sided win over Warshockz in the opening day yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Cviraa, mentored by coach Glen Ramos, crushed Warshockz 5-0.

Francis Palag hit the opening goal in the 14th minute, while Simon del Campo followed it up a minute later to give Cviraa an early 2-0 lead.

Vaughn Pacana hit the first of his two goals in the 55th minute. Joseph Garces scored in the 63rd minute, while Pacana struck two minutes later for his second goal.

The Cviraa elementary team is deep in preparatio­n for the up- coming Palarong Pambansa and now leads the five-day tournament with three points.

The Cviraa high school side, on the other hand, suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of Vantage in the Men’s Open category. Vantage is the new identity of Aboitiz Men’s Open champion Leylam FC.

Don Bosco United FC (DBUFC) squeaked past University of Cebu (UC) 3-2 also in the Men’s Open division, while Samba FC forced a high-scoring 5-5 draw with Prisaa-bound University of San Carlos (USC) in a see-saw Men’s Open match.

Felix Ating scored a timely goal in the 91st minute to share a point each with USC.

USC drew first blood with a goal by Mark Veloso in the 23rd minute. Segun Besh Abiola scored the equalizer in the 30th minute, while Onwuchekwa Hanacher gave Samba FC the lead five minutes later.

Kwan tied it in the 49th minute and Yves Caballero gave USC the go-ahead goal two minutes after.

Kwan scored his second goal in the 53rd to give USC a commanding 4-2 lead but Hanacher answered with his second goal just two minutes later to trim it to a one-goal deficit.

Isah Zahraddeen Sani tied it at 4-4 after hitting the back of the net with a long shot in the 76th minute.

Aldrich Pelenio quickly retaliated with a potential winning in the 81st minute before Ating scored the timely equalizer. /
