Team wants ban lifted temporarily

The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) is requesting the Mandaue City Council to approve a resolution for a 60-day dry run of the no-truck ban on a cargo transport corridor in the city.

Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of Team, said the truck corridor is based on the updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of the City.

In a press conference yesterday, Antigua said the concern of the truck corridor was taken up during a meeting with the Mega Cebu officials last week.

He said there are roads for cargo trucks that are not being affected by truck ban hours in the cities of Cebu, Talisay and Lapu-Lapu, yet there is none in Mandaue.

This results in truck congestion on the streets of Mandaue before the truck ban hours since companies have to deliver the goods on time.

Truck ban hours in Mandaue are rom 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Based on the CLUP of Mandaue, the truck corridor starts at Ouano Ave., straight to A. Soriano Ave., left turn to D. M. Cortes St., then to Cansaga Bridge for northern-bound cargos.

For trucks going to Lapu-Lapu City, vehicles must turn right to United Nations Ave., straight to the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge.

“In this case, the truck ban will only be implemented in the City center,” Antigua said in Cebuano.

He said there will be no changes of the route of the public utility jeepneys that have been passing on the identified area intended for trucks.

“Makatabang gyod kay di na sila magdungan, unlike hapit na oras sa truck ban maghuot sila (Traffic congestion will be minimized once the cargo transport corridor with no truck ban hours will implemented),” he said.

The City Council will discuss the 60-day dry run for this in regular session tomorrow.
