72 teams join UA 3 on 3

-

Seventy-two teams are scheduled to see action in the Cebu leg of the Under Armour’s The Ultimate 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Southeast Asia on April 22 and 23. Of the 72 teams, only one will get an all-expense paid trip to Manila to compete with the top three teams of NCR for the Philippine title.

Tournament director and Under Armour consultant Joe Lipa announced that they only accept 72 teams to finish the tournament in two days.

“The 72 teams will be divided into 24 groups, with three teams each group. After the elimination round, the top teams will advance to the knockout phase until only one team remains standing for the Cebu Leg,” Lipa said.

A selection of players from the four teams in the national finals will be sent to the Fiba U18 Asia Cup that will be held in Cyberjaya, Malaysia on May 26-28.

Lipa was here in Cebu yesterday to launch the event and promote it with the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) member schools.

Lipa tapped Cesafi as the tournament’s captive audience but the tournament is now limited to its member schools.

The tournament is for 18 years old and below.

Interested teams have to register online at www.ua3x3.com while payment of the registration fee of P5,500 has to be paid at UA’s partner store at the Olympic Village in Ayala Center in Cebu.

Deadline of registration is on April 9. /
