Short films festival

FILMS. I was one of those invited to attend the 3rd Carolinian Short Films Exhibit last Wednesday at the University of San Carlos Talamban Campus theater. Seen were several media colleagues that starred in some of the short flicks. Fellow broadcaster Dante Luzon of dyRC played a major role in Leonora Kilat while The Freeman columnist Ligaya Rabago starred in another production about the war against illegal drugs. Gloria George of CCTN channel 47 did the voice of a grandmother in an animated film.

FIRST. It was my very first time to get involved in an animation. I voiced the part of a ship captain. The short presentation titled Sierra Madre was written, directed and produced by Jovanni Tinapay. The rest of the entries were also done by other film students of the university. All of them showed potentials.

COMMEND. I commend the university and the organizers of the annual short films festival. To me, it is one surefire way of discovering and honing the filmmaking skills of students. And it could also encourage them to love and help promote the beauty of the dialect.

ANTHEM. How come some local cinemas no longer play the national anthem before the start of movies that are slated for the last full show? I noticed this last week in one of the mall cinemas here. I may be wrong but I think there’s a directive that compels theaters to play the anthem before the first and last screening of movies on a daily basis.

CONCERT. Next Monday, I shall tackle the fundraising concert of Sakdap, Cebu’s only male quartet that was staged at the Capitol Social Hall last night. (For comments, text 0932-277-8771)
