When Gingging Morelos (a trusted consultant of the Archdiocese on household matters) asked for prayers for a safe trip from Archbishop Jose Palma, the good archbishop asked her where she was bound for. When she answered Myanmar, he suggested that she and her group make a courtesy call on His Eminence Charles Cardinal Muang Bo who was the Papal Legate during the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) held here last year. He officially represented Pope Francis in all the IEC activites starting with the opening mass all the way to the closing ceremonies. And so we visited the very accommodating Cardinal in his home in Yangoon, Myanmar. He welcomed us with open arms, treated us to brunch, and talked of his pleasant Cebu memories. Yes, he hopes to come back sometime.

○○○ Hans and Cherrie (Duterte) Gross gathered old friends at their well-appointed apartelle in Sophia Suites for a home-cooked dinner (by Lorna, the former housekeeper of the Duterte family) shortly before they headed for home in Germany. It was an intimate group of friends who included former schoolmates in STC—Aida Cavan Ugalde, balikbayans Grace Roa Gonzalez and Helen Beierly Haverty, Manila-based Victoria Deen Sison; her old chums Odette Jereza, Letty Suico and Tina O’Brien; and childhood friends Livy Gonzalez and Lukie Alvarez.

Another Theresian get-together was lunch at Montebello hosted by Norma Borromeo.

○○○ Bright Academy founding directress Allen Pages was all smiles during the school’s Junior-Senior prom held at the Marco Polo Plaza. The students and their guests were dressed to the nines. Chosen Prom King was Jinoo Do and Prom Queen was Paulene Orias. The Prom Prince was Ryan Gordon while the Prom Princess was Ericka Marañan.

○○○ Abstract expressionist painter Norberto Carating came to town for the opening of his exhibit entitled “Twilight” at Radisson Blu’s Dilmah t-Bar. Exhibit runs till April 17.

○○○ Here to preside over the presentation of the newest collection of Montblanc at Rustan’s were Montblanc’s South East Asia’s managing director Anouar Guerraoui and Rustan Commercial Corporation president Donnie Tantoco. They proudly led the guests to the display of finely crafted writing instruments, precisely engineered timepieces, and hand crafted leather goods.
