CITY REMINDS BARS TO RENEW BIZ PERMITS
City Hall to inspect, possibly close establishments that fail to renew their permits by April 20
Comply with all the permits and requirements before April 20 or your establishments will be closed.
This was the warning of Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak to all the bar owners in the city.
“They have to renew their business permits. They should also comply with our existing laws on sanitation, the building code and sale of liquor,” he said.
Tumulak, who is the deputy mayor for police matters, said that the City Government is strictly enforcing these laws after he received a report about a 14-year-old who passed out in a bar
He also received reports about establishments selling cigarettes to minors.
“We are being more vigilant because it’s already summer break, and as expected, more students may be visiting the bars. Minors aren’t allowed to enter drinking areas,” Tumulak said.
Aside from this, the councilor reminded the bars’ management to keep their establishments clean at all times.
He said he received a complaint from a well-known family that a certain bar in the city has been operating with expired health and sanitation permits.
“But we won’t be sending these bars letters of communication anymore because they know about the deadline. They are also mandated by law (to renew their permits),” he added.
So far, about 60 percent of the city’s bars have already renewed their permits.
Tumulak and other City Hall officials will inspect all the bars in the city when the deadline for the renewal of business permits lapse. /
