PWDs receive cash aid from City Hall
A huge smile was seen on George Mansanero’s face yesterday as he and his companion were leaving the Guadalupe Barangay Hall, Cebu City.
The 25-year-old had in his right hand his identification (ID) card, and in his left hand the P2,000 he received from the City Government.
“Nalipay ko kay makapalit na ko og tambal. Mag-tulo na ka adlaw sukad katapusan nakong tumar sa akong tambal (I’m happy because I now have the money to buy my medicine. It’s been three days since I last took it),” he said.
Mansanero was born with an orthopedic disability and was one of the 616 persons with disability (PWD) in Guadalupe who received their first tranche of the City’s P9,000 cash aid.
Barangay Guadalupe has the most number of beneficiaries out of 10,300 qualified PWDs in the city
With their financial assistance increased to P9,000 from P5,000, Lolita Lomontoc, who was also born with an orthopedic disability, said she won’t have to worry about feeding her kids and buying her medicine.
A mother of six, with a grade three student in Guadalupe Elementary School as the youngest, the 42-year-old admitted having difficulty in making ends meet.
“But now I will be able to buy a box of my medicine without worries even if it costs more than P1,000. I can now also treat my kids to some ice cream,” she said.
Marivic Quijano of the De- partment of Social Welfare and Services said the distribution was orderly.
She said there were no re- ported major glitches, except for some concerns about the IDs during the half-day distribution, which was done in designated ar- eas in all 80 barangays in the city. Those who failed to get their cash aid yesterday can claim it at the City Hall tomorrow.
