LGUs, law enforcers monitor coastal areas

In light of the recent encounter in Bohol, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III assured the public that law enforcement agencies and the intelligence community are taking all measures to confront the possibility of the presence of Abu Sayyaf members in Cebu.

He urged officials and residents of each barangay to monitor their shorelines and report anything suspicious to the authorities immediately.

He also encouraged the local government officials and civilians to remain vigilant as well.

He said this is one way to help the authorities’ efforts in ensuring public security.

The cities of Talisay and Naga have instructed their local police to increase visibility, particularly in coastal areas where suspected terrorists may enter.

Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas Sr. said he has tasked City Hall consultant on peace and order and retired police general Cecil Sandalo to coordinate with the police in their security prepara- tions. Despite threats of suspected terrorists, the religious activities in line for the Holy Week will continue, Gullas added.

In the City of Naga, Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong said she has tasked the Coast Guard and the local police to watch the barangays and the city’s coastal waters 24/7.

She also instructed the village chiefs to be vigilant and immediately report any suspected personalities in their areas. /
