CH has yet to award contract for hauling garbage this month

-

June is less than two weeks away, and the Cebu City Government’s bids and awards committee ( BAC) has yet to declare the winning bidder for the city’s garbage disposal this month

BAC chairman Ronald Malacora said the delay is attributed to the protest that Jomara Konstruct Corp. will file after the service provider was disqualified during the May 16 bidding.

BAC conducted the bidding to hire a service provider that will undertake the P40 million worth of garbage disposal this month.

John Paul Gelasque, Department of Public Services ( DPS) assistant head, said that Jomara will continue to collect garbage until Tuesday since it has yet to consume the P12- million additional budget for waste dispos- al it was earlier allocated.

“Jomara will have to consume the P12- million budget first before a new service provider, if there is any, takes over the garbage hauling. Although the P40 million was initially intended for the month of May, but we found out that the P12 million will still last for several days,” Gelasque told SunStar Cebu.

During the bidding, Pasajero Motors Corp. ( Pamocor) placed the lowest bid of P1,333 per ton of garbage.

The City, though, can’t award the contract to Pamocor until the decision on Jomara’s appeal is released, Malacora said.

He said Jomara was disqualified to join the bidding because it didn’t present its tax clearance from the Bureau of International Revenue.

A day after last week’s bidding, Malacora said Jomara was able to submit its updated tax clearance along with its motion for reconsideration, but the BAC denied it.

Under the law, a bidder whose motion for reconsideration is denied can appeal before the Office of the Mayor.

Jomara has been hauling the city’s garbage since last year after the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill was shut down. /
