Vietnamese food that’s to die pho

- MONICA R. LOPEZ / Writer

Fans of Phat Pho’s delectable noodles, as well as its summer rolls and banh mi (and, oh boy, those Vietnamese meat balls) will find their favorites and then some in their newest outlet in The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. This is the Abaca Group’s biggest branch of Phat Pho, so far: plenty of space for regulars and potential converts alike.

There’s really no formula when trying out a new dish or a new cuisine. Just pick and choose, have a taste and eat some more.

It’s a sight to see a slew of cuisines flourishing on the streets of Cebu. It goes to show the locals are not just proud of their cuisine, but curious enough to try out other dishes originating from different parts of the world that can be found in various spots in the city—one of which is Vietnamese cuisine.

With this in mind, The Abaca Group continues to serve different flavors and selections, gaining serious momentum as it recently opened its third and biggest branch of Phat Pho.

Compared to the casual counter-style setup seen in other Phat Pho branches in Crossroads and Robinsons Cybergate, this newly opened branch caters to bigger groups while retaining that modern street style it’s known for. Truly built for big group gatherings, the expansive restaurant comes with semi-private tables—a feature that can’t be found in other branches.

Also, this branch has a

different menu set, fit for sharing with family and friends.

So apart from the pho, the banh mi, the summer rolls and cold noodle bowls, check out its other plates to share including its specialties like angus beef shortrib and tendon “bo kho,” a claypot style Vietnames beef stew; its sweet and sour with the choice of pork, chicken or fish; the thit heo hap, a steamed pork belly dish with a fragrant spicy green papaya salad; as well as its selection of street style satays. Pair these with its selection of drinks like smoothies, juices and phat coolers, lightly sweetened pitchers like pineapple mango, cucumber basil, watermelon mint and lemongrass ginger.

Those still tiptoeing on trying something out of their level of comfort at least have the assurance that it’s just right around the corner the minute they cross that line. After all, life’s too short to just stick to one type of cuisine.

Serving quality, friendly Vietnamese food, check out the latest branch at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.
