What started out as a craving and fascination of the Mexican food and culture ultimately led to the opening of restaurant and bar Pueblo Mexicano in May 2013.

It’s been four years since Pueblo opened its doors to the public offering Mexican and Latin American comfort food and each time one dines there, there’s this feeling of stepping into a cozy home of a Mexican abuela (grandmother).

Early this month, media guests had the opportunity to experience such comfort and warmth at the casual dining place.

While admiring the bright walls decorated with folkloric tapestries, colorful crosses and other decors, guests enjoyed different dishes from appetizers, main course and dessert; showing that clearly, there’s more to Mexican food than just burritos and tacos.

Some of the dishes prepared included the garlic-cream scallops with fresh epazote; tamales, two steamed corn masa dumplings stuffed with lechon carnitas, cheese and salsa rojo wrapped in corn husk; entrées like fish vercruzana, pan-grilled tasik fish with tomato wedges, olives, capers and cilantro-lime rice; Peruvian-style roasted chicken called pollo a la brasa; Sinaloa-style carnitas called chilorio de pueblo; and desserts like coconut-crusted fried ice cream and Spanish bread pudding called torrija, served with dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream.

Paired with the dishes, guests also got to try its margaritas. Served frozen and rimmed with chili lime salt, it houses different types of margaritas like the classic lime margarita, 100 percent agave margarita and fruit margaritas like guava, mango and watermelon mint to name a few.

Pueblo Mexicano is located at Banilad Town Center and celebrated its fourth anniversary last May 5, also known as Cinco de Mayo.
