Learning a new language

-

Not everyone is keen to spend the last days of summer in a school setup.

But if you haven't done much during the long break, why not consider learning a new language? There are lots of benefits that come with being able to converse in another language. Here are some of them:

You appreciate another culture.

If your family is the kind that likes to travel overseas, learning a new language is a plus. The locals will appreciate your efforts and, with better communication, they might let you in on secrets of their place that regular tourists don't know about.

You can find new friends.

Meeting people will be easier if you can converse in the same language. Is that new foreign exchange student shy? She might open up a bit more if she met someone who could speak to her and understand what she has to say. You could also help her make new friends.

You get brain power.

Studies have shown that those who know multiple languages develop sharp minds make them more observant. Being able to switch from one language to another is excellent practice for quick thinking.

You become an asset.

You won't appreciate it now, but when you're older, being able to commu- nicate in another language could open doors for you. Many employers need people who can communicate in other languages and this makes you a valuable employee in the future. And these days, it's never too early to think about the future. So, won't you give it a go?
