Background checks for incoming Marawi evacuees

A group called Tabang Sibilyan Visayas has reportedly volunteere­d to help assist in the transfer of some Marawi City residents who may wish to move temporaril­y to Cebu. Malo Manonggiri­ng, director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos 7, said that for security purposes, any person or family moving to Cebu to avoid the ongoing conflict in Marawi, Lanao del Sur will go through background checks.

No affected residents from conflict-ridden Marawi City have come to Cebu to flee from the fighting there, said an official of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

Malo Manonggiri­ng, NCMF 7 director, told SunStar Cebu that they are still awaiting word from the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte on a possible exodus of Marawi residents to Cebu.

Manonggiri­ng, however, assured that they can provide assistance to individual­s and families from Marawi who plan to relocate to Cebu.

Manonggiri­ng said that members of the Tabang Sibilyan Visayas, a group of students and profession­als, have came forward to assist them in locating affected Marawi City residents or facilitati­ng those who wish to transfer to Cebu.

For security purposes, Manonggiri­ng said any individual or family from Marawi City who will be coming to Cebu will be subjected to background checks.

Manonggiri­ng explained background checks are necessary for security purposes. /
