Around 80 volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation took to Ouano Ave. at the North Reclamation Area in Barangay Subangdaku. With the theme “2017 Clean World Movement to Cope with Climate Change,” the activity was able to gather around 40 sacks of garbage. The organization, which was founded by chairwoman Zhang Gil-jah in South Korea, has around 4,000 chapters worldwide.

Since 1988, Hero Foundation supported 2,698 scholars; 1,082 of them graduated from college. At present, it has 650 scholars Ang Araw Sa Likod Mo is now showing in cinemas nationwide and most of its proceeds will go to the foundation

Suzeth Dalangin was only seven years old when she lost her soldier-father in a gunfight. Suzette and her siblings grew up in the care of their grandmother as her mother had to find a job to support the family.

Growing up without a father was very hard on her.

“Naiinggit ako sa iba na lumaking may ama. Meron silang ama na nagtatanggol sa kanila. Ang hirap lumaki na inaapi kasi walang ama,” said Suzeth, who failed to hide her tears during a press conference held in Cebu City recently.

There were instances when she would consider giving up schools because of the situation. But her dream of getting a degree and having a better life for her family inspired her to go on.

The Hero (Help, Educate, and Rear Orphans) Foundation Inc. became the vehicle for her to fulfill her dream.

Suzeth, now 23, is an accomplished degree holder, having finished a course of Bachelor of Computer Science.

Suzeth, together with two other military orphans in Cebu, namely, Maria Samantha Batoctoy, 20, and Carl Vincent Sewala, 16, were among the 2,698 scholars supported by Hero Foundation since it was organized in 1988.

For the past 29 years, the foundation has been providing educational assistance in the form of stipends to children or siblings of Filipino soldiers killed in action, totally incapacitated due to combat action, or those who die while performing disaster relief and rescue operations.

Of the 2,698 scholars, 1,082 of them already graduated from college. At present, the foundation is supporting 650 active scholars.

During the press conference, the foundation announced that it is expanding the assistance it is giving to its scholars.

Janice S. Tuballes, Hero Foundation scholar management and media relations officer, said that in the 2018 school year, the foundation will be implementing a full scholarship program for college.

Recently, the foundation partnered with producers of internationally-acclaimed film, Ang Araw sa Likod Mo (The Sun Behind You), for its scholarship program.

Most of the proceeds of the film, which is now showing in cinemas nationwide, will go to the scholarship program of the foundation.
