38th Cebu Pop Music Festival, accepting entries
LAUGHTER. There was much laughter during the Kinse anniversary concert of the Cebu Clergy Performing Artists two weeks ago at the Mariners’ Court near Pier 1. Frs. Jun Gutierrez, Kipling Agravante, Rudy Ibali and Zachary Zacarias once again proved that their being singing and dancing priests could still effectively delight the general public.
FANTASTIC. The appearance of concert star Anna Marie Fegi-Brown as guest performer added color to the concert. Yours truly did a 15-minute oneman standup comedy as an intermission number. Those that were there are clamoring for a repeat performance.
REMINDER. The Cebu Arts Foundation Inc. is reminding all interested songwriters to prepare their entries to next year’s 38th Cebu Popular Music Festival. The three song categories are: Awit sa
Gugma whose entries should be about love, either happy or sad; Huni sa Kasingkasing which is an open theme but should be in the folk, country or novelty genres; and Garbo sa mga Bisaya which is also an open theme in the upbeat tempo and should focus on the Visayan arts, culture, food, places etc.
PRIZES. There will be a grand winner in each category whose cash prize is P100,000. Non-winners will get P20,000. Deadline for submission of entries is on Aug. 31 this year. For more info on this, contact Gloria Villarojo (0923-160-1900) or send her an e-mail (for the entry forms) to gloria_soundtraxx@yahoo.com.ph.
RECITAL. Next Monday, I shall tell you about the first music students’ recital of the Trinita Beata Academy Inc. which was a tremendous success.
CHEERS. On a personal note, let me congratulate the lovely and talented singing nurse Migs Gabisan who is now a lawyer after passing the 2016 bar exams. She is also popularly known as the Regine Velasquez of Hilongos, Leyte.
