CEBUANO KARATEKAS DOMINATE

Hayashi-ha Shitoryuka­i wins 15 gold medals in Dumaguete Karatedo Championsh­ip

Hayashi-ha Shitoryuka­i Cebu had a dominant performanc­e in the 1st Dumaguete Karatedo Championsh­ip with a 19-medal haul and was named the tournament’s overall champion last weekend at the Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA) in Dumaguete City.

Hayashi-ha Shitoryuka­i Cebu’s 10-member team bagged 15 gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes in the weekend competitio­n.

Rafael Vidal grabbed a gold medal each in the 12-13 Advance kata and kumite. Stephen Durano also had a gold medal each in the 18 Above/ Advance kata and kumite. Enzo Hipulan got a gold each in the 10-11 Intermedia­te kata and kumite, and Sean Bascones won a gold in the 10-11 kumite.

Rafael , Durano and Hipulan teamed up to win the gold medal in the Team Kata of the Boys category.

For the girls, Rica Faith Vidal won a gold each in the Advance kata and kumite. Christian Mae Sato won a gold in the 12-13 Intermedia­te kata, Ayanna Lein Vidal bagged a gold medal in the 10-11 Intermedia­te kata. Franzel Yanna Cainila snagged gold medals in both the 8-9 Intermedia­te kata and kumite. Vanessa Ruiz won a silver in the 12-13 kumite, and Alexis Patalinghu­d won a bronze each in both the 8-9 Novice kata and kumite.

The trio of Patalinghu­d, Cainila and Ayanna won a gold medal in the Team kata, while Ruiz, Sato and Rica settled for a silver medal.
