Career day at Marriott

- PR

To aptly end the summer season, Cebu City Marriott Hotel (CCMH), in coordination with University of San Carlos (USC) Pathways Organization, spent an afternoon with incoming Grade 10 and 11 students under the Bridging the Gap Program for an overview and acquaintance tour of the service and hospitality industry.

Welcoming the group of ove 80 eager learners was Cebu Marriott’s training manager, Ritchie Rosit, as she gave a quick history of Marriott International, from its humble beginnings as a nine-seater root beer stand in Washington DC in 1927 to eventually becoming the world’s largest hospitality company with 30 brands under its wing across 5,600 properties all over the world! She added that “career opportunities and growth will continue to open up for everyone,” citing that by the time the students graduate, more jobs would be available with Marriott International’s strategic plans for expansion not only in the Philippines but across Asia and the rest of the world.

Front office manager Marichu Lato shared some tips to delight guests by following the G.U.E.S.T model. In a nutshell, to always “greet” the guest whenever you see them; “use” their names whenever possible; “establish” their needs; always “show” interest towards the guest and never forget to “thank” them after.

Restaurant manager Edmar Malaca ended the afternoon with sharing the value of how important it is to make the right impressions. All students paid close attention as he conducted a demonstration on traditional table placements and their respective use, and how to properly conduct themselves during formal events and functions. The session ended with an interactive game on how to put together their own table covers to test out what they just learned. A hotel tour then followed which elicited vibrant energy as the students turned an inquisitive eye to the hotel’s food and beverage outlets, function rooms and banquet spaces, and other facilities; but more so, as they experienced firsthand Marriott’s signature brand of service excellence through the service from the heart delivered by its brilliant hosts.
