PHOENIX: P1M FOR HOLE-INONE IN CEBU

After 10 years in Davao, Phoenix Petroleum expands golf event Phoenix dangles P1 million, brand new car as hole-inone prizes Organizers say participants will also get a chance to win raffle prizes

-

Phoenix Petroleum hopes to reach more golfers as it expands its annual tournament—the Premium 98 Amateur Open— for the first time to Cebu on June 30 at the Cebu Country Club (CCC) in Banilad.

The 18-hole tournament was held in Davao for the past 10 years, and this year, the company decided to hold one in Cebu and another in Manila.

“We’ve been doing this for the past 10 years in Davao. We are starting here in Cebu for our move to make this a nationwide tournament,” Atty. Raymond Zorrilla, VP for external affairs business development and secu- rity, said in a press conference at The Henry Hotel yesterday.

The tournament, which is expected to be joined by 120 players, is also for a cause as the proceeds will go to the Phoenix Foundation, which has various projects like educational assistance, environmental advocacy, health assistance, and outreach programs.

The tournament, however, has an age requirement. A player should be 24 years old and above to be eligible to compete. This is done to level the playing field.

“This tournament has players usually in the executive class. If we put them against much younger players, they would be at a disadvantage. This is more of a fun golf rather than competition,” said tournament organizer Liloh Evangelista.

Evangelista said that no one will go home empty-handed as there will be a lot of raffle prizes and giveaways. There are prizes as well in the different fun games.

The biggest prize is for the hole-in-one, which will have P1 million in cash, a new vehicle and P100,000 worth of Phoenix fuel cards at stake. The hole-in-one prizes will be at all par-3 holes, with each hole having a designated prize at stake. /
