MIKE-TOMAS PROTESTS: WHY THEY’RE EXPENSIVE

Recount of ballots in the protest of Michael L. Rama vs. Tomas Osmeña will start June 13, a Tuesday, at 8:30 a.m. at the ground floor of the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila.

Ten committees--each with two chairpersons, two recorders and two ballot box custodians--will handle the recount. There will be alternate chairpersons, recorders and custodians, along with photo copiers, warehouse custodians and security.

That explains the huge expense each protestant has to pay.

EVEN HAULERS

Now, in a May 30 Comelec second division order, both Mike and Tomas are required to submit the revised list of revisors and two photocopying machines each.

They even have (1) to pay for the electricity in photo-copying at P1 per page and (2) to provide four haulers to move ballot boxes from storage and back.

And the revisors have to stay in Manila for the duration of the recount. More expenses.

P20 WEDDING

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña “advertises” on Facebook that he performs a civil marriage only for P20 per couple, with a “discount of P20 if you make an appointment ahead of time” (whatever that precisely means).

If you’re a Team Rama couple, will you still get the discount? He doesn’t say. If you’re too partisan to a fault, you may have your marriage performed by vice mayor, who belongs to Team Rama, but only during the temporary absence of the mayor, such as when Tomas flies out of the country.

P20? Much cheaper than getting married before a judge or a priest or minister.
