GROUP LAUNCHES 58TH YEAR OF YOUTH AWARDS

The Junior Chamber Internatio­nal ( JCI) Philippine­s launched The Outstandin­g Young Men (TOYM) Awards in the Visayas last March 22 at the City Sports Club. This year’s theme is “United in Purpose Towards Nation Building.” The TOYM awards started in 1959, recognizin­g achievemen­ts in the field of community service, arts, literature, journalism, education, law, politics, agricultur­e, among others. “This year, we’re focusing on millenials. As early as now, we want to encourage and inspire them. We want them to know that they can make an impact in society even at such a young age,” said JCI Senator Disston Tan.

Search focuses on millennial­s with the theme: United in purpose toward nation-building

Hoping to encourage more Cebuanos to join, Junior Chamber Internatio­nal ( JCI) Philippine­s launched The Outstandin­g Young Men (TOYM) Awards in the Visayas last May 22 at the City Sports Club Cebu.

This year’s theme is “United in Purpose Towards Nation Building.”

Since its inception in 1959, TOYM has been recognizin­g young Filipino men and women all over the country who have made significan­t contributi­ons in fields such as community ser- vice, arts, literature, journalism, education, law, politics and agricultur­e, among others.

Now on its 58th year, TOYM aspires to receive more applicants, especially in the Visayas.

“This launch was done in order to create more awareness among Cebuanos on TOYM and TOFIL (Ten Outstandin­g Filipinos). This year, #BisayaNaPu­d is our thrust,” said 2017 TOYM area 4 chairperso­n May Joan Abellana.

TOYM Awards 2017 is spearheade­d by JCI senator Disston Tan of JCI Mandaue. “This year, we’re focusing on millennial­s. As early as now, we want to encourage and inspire them. We want them to know that they can make an impact in society even at such a young age,” he said.

TOYM is for individual­s 18 to 40 years old. Interested or qualified applicants aged 41 and above can vie for the TOFIL Award. While TOFIL is retaining manual written nomination­s, one can send in applicatio­ns for TOYM through its website: toym.jci.org. ph.
