GROUP LAUNCHES 58TH YEAR OF YOUTH AWARDS
The Junior Chamber International ( JCI) Philippines launched The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awards in the Visayas last March 22 at the City Sports Club. This year’s theme is “United in Purpose Towards Nation Building.” The TOYM awards started in 1959, recognizing achievements in the field of community service, arts, literature, journalism, education, law, politics, agriculture, among others. “This year, we’re focusing on millenials. As early as now, we want to encourage and inspire them. We want them to know that they can make an impact in society even at such a young age,” said JCI Senator Disston Tan.
Search focuses on millennials with the theme: United in purpose toward nation-building
Hoping to encourage more Cebuanos to join, Junior Chamber International ( JCI) Philippines launched The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awards in the Visayas last May 22 at the City Sports Club Cebu.
This year’s theme is “United in Purpose Towards Nation Building.”
Since its inception in 1959, TOYM has been recognizing young Filipino men and women all over the country who have made significant contributions in fields such as community ser- vice, arts, literature, journalism, education, law, politics and agriculture, among others.
Now on its 58th year, TOYM aspires to receive more applicants, especially in the Visayas.
“This launch was done in order to create more awareness among Cebuanos on TOYM and TOFIL (Ten Outstanding Filipinos). This year, #BisayaNaPud is our thrust,” said 2017 TOYM area 4 chairperson May Joan Abellana.
TOYM Awards 2017 is spearheaded by JCI senator Disston Tan of JCI Mandaue. “This year, we’re focusing on millennials. As early as now, we want to encourage and inspire them. We want them to know that they can make an impact in society even at such a young age,” he said.
TOYM is for individuals 18 to 40 years old. Interested or qualified applicants aged 41 and above can vie for the TOFIL Award. While TOFIL is retaining manual written nominations, one can send in applications for TOYM through its website: toym.jci.org. ph.
