Inspection at the facility for minors was held a month after Cebu City Government took over the management from BJMP

A medium pack of marijuana and a sachet of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, drug paraphernalia and improvised deadly weapons, among other contraband were recovered during the greyhound operation conducted inside the Cebu City Operation Second Chance Center last Wednesday afternoon.

The operation was made about a month after the City Government took over the management of the center from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology last April.

Councilor Dave Tumulak said among the items confiscated inside the male dormitory included improvised weapons, iron bars, ropes, a pocket Wi-Fi and some gadgets.

The operation was carried out by a team from the Guadalupe Police Station, together with the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Tumulak, who is the deputy mayor for police matters and council committee chairperson on public order and safety, said that the operation was made to clean the center from illegal items.

Tumulak said that he will have the matter investigated including all the personnel and the house parents.

“This is really alarming, especially that all of those residing inside the center are all minors and they know already how to make improvised weapons,” he said.

If any of the personnel is proven to have connived with the minors, Tumulak said they will be dismissed from service.

The center, which houses children in conflict with the law, has 198 minor offenders.

Of the 198, only 88 are from Cebu City while the rest are from other cities and towns of Cebu.
