Osmeña: PUVs will be allowed to pass south coastal road

- RVC

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is willing to allow public utility vehicles to access the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) once the construction of the P683-million underpass and other road improvements on N. Bacalso Ave. and F. Llamas St. is implemented.

In an interview yesterday, Osmeña said that buses and mini-buses coming and going to the southern towns can use the CSCR.

“Yes, there's no problem with it, just use it,” the mayor told reporters.

When Tabunok flyover underwent repairs last March, Osmeña also gave an approval for Cebu South Bus Terminal to allow their buses to pass by CSCR, saying the road was intended for the public.

If he had to choose, the mayor said he will prefer buses and jeepneys to use the CSCR than private cars.

Osmeña said that it will be the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) that will handle all the traffic concerns related to the project, particularly on the traffic rerouting.

But before any traffic adjustment will be made, Osmeña said the public should be well-informed about it to allow them to plan ahead for their trips.

During the stakeholders meeting last Wednesday, Engr. Roy dela Cruz, the project engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7, presented a traffic rerouting plan that will allow buses and mini-buses to use the CSCR.

DPWH 7 Director Ador Canlas clarified, though, that it should first have the approval of Osmeña.

On June 7 and 8, DPWH, along with the CCTO, will conduct a traffic dry run on the designated alternative routes. /
